TotalEnergies' Rubia Optima oil range is the answer to the latest challenges of truck and specialty engine builders. Due to its properties, it is also perfectly suited to older units and in many cases successfully replaces Rubia Tir oils.
The same horsepower that used to be achieved from 17-liter V8 engines is being obtained from 13- and even 11-liter 6-cylinder engines. Average fuel consumption drops - from 32-35 l/100 km to 26-28 l/100 km. Maintenance intervals have also been almost doubled. This could not have been achieved without such modern oils as Rubia Optima. This oil was developed together with engine builders.
An additional challenge was compatibility with exhaust gas after-treatment systems being introduced, such as DPF or SCR, as well as biofuels. The idea is that, on the one hand, the engine oil combustion products should not clog the filters, and on the other hand, the possible contact of the biofuel with the oil should not cause changes in its properties - such as gelation.
It should be emphasized at this point that for engines that require the latest generation of oils - such as Rubia Optima - older, cheaper substitutes must not be used. Such economies can result in increased fuel consumption, increased oil consumption, loss of oil properties before the replacement date, damage to lubrication and exhaust after-treatment systems, and simply engine seizure. It's important to know that “oil innovations” are not marketing, but completely new formulations necessary for new designs that achieve green goals.
A clear sign of the new design requirements are the new, stricter approvals/acceptances published by virtually all major engine manufacturers such as MAN, SCANIA DAIMLER TRUCK, VOLVO, DAF, MACK, RENAULT TRUCKS, CUMMIN. These requirements are also specified in the latest API and ACEA quality specifications - these are API: CK-4 and ACEA: E8 and ACEA E11.
TotalEnergies Rubia Optima with Inno-Boost technology
- high resistance to oil oxidation (by up to 100%).
This parameter was confirmed in a test on a MACK engine conducted for 360 hours where the oil temperature was artificially maintained at a very high level of 130 degrees Celsius. Rubia Optima 3500 FE 5W-30 oil showed 95% less viscosity increase than the permissible limit for this standard.
- Tougher requirements to protect bushing and ring wear, piston cleanliness, ring seizing, sludge and deposits in engines when using fuel with increased amounts of biocomponents as well as increased amounts of soot. This is associated with better compatibility and greater dispersion.
- Increased requirements for oil viscosity loss due to polymer shear and oil aeration.
- Increased requirements for protection against DPF blockage.
Rubia Optima oils already have more than 200 approvals from manufacturers of various trucks. Many of these approvals were issued not only after laboratory tests, but also after road tests.
TotalEnergies Rubia Optima instead of Rubia Tir?
Examples of products from the TotalEnergies Rubia Optima range
Synthetic, Low Saps oil for the latest EURO VI engines designed for almost all brands on the market. Its quality is confirmed by the highest international specifications API: CK-4, ACEA E8 and E11, as well as a whole range of the highest builder approvals such as MAN: M 3777, SCANIA: LDF-4, DAIMLER TRUCK AG: DTFR 15C120 (MB: 228.52); VOLVO: VDS 4.5, Cummins: CES 20086.
The oil additionally meets the requirements of DAF: LD and Iveco TLS E9/CK-4. Rubia Optima 3500 FE 5W-30 is distinguished by its exceptional oxidation resistance thanks to which it gives a high safety limit when using maximum oil change intervals.
This is the successor of a very well-known and appreciated oil on the Polish market, namely Rubia Tir 8900 10W-40. This new oil, although semi-synthetic, is hardly inferior to Optima 3500 FE 5W-30 oil in terms of specifications and approvals. As confirmed by the highest international specifications API: CK-4, ACEA E8 and E11, as well as a whole range of the highest builder approvals such as DAIMLER TRUCK AG: DTFR 15C120 (MB: 228.52); VOLVO: VDS 4.5, Cummins: CES 20086.
Therefore, it is an excellent truck oil with excellent value for money.
